LASIK
is used to replace the cornea under corneal flap. In this process a highly
specialized laser is used to treat the refractive errors and improve vision
without need for contact lens or glasses. This laser process changes the shape
of the cornea, the transparent front covering of the eye.
There
are different types of lasers used in treatment. All LASIK surgeries are
performed with a particular type of laser, , so in one sense, all LASIK
surgeries are same. However, there many laser manufacturers, such as Wavelight,
Alcon, Bausch & Lomb, Visx, and Nidek, among others, who have designed
different excimer lasers. And then there are different types of laser surgeries
that can be performed such as conventional laser treatments and wave front
guided treatment.
Conventional
LASIK is the removal pattern where the lasers are directly used, based on the
glass prescription of the patient. This treatment has fixed parameters for each
patient. Though this is effective treatment, but it can causes visuals issues
like glare, night vision, glare and halos compare to other treatments. In
wavefront optimized, the laser is available on wave light. This treatment is
also according to the glass prescription of the patient. But it also has to
take into account corneal curvature and thickness. The laser energy is applied in a unique way
in the periphery of the cornea. This
treatment is quite effective in reducing the issues of glare, halos, night
visions etc.
Wavefront-guided
LASIK is like conventional LASIK, LASIK Eye Surgery
Delhi but in this surgery in
addition to treatment of patient’s basic refractive error, precise alterations
in a patient's eye are also treated. Before this surgery, the special mapping
is done to identify any irregularity in patients’ optical system. If these
irregularities are severe, they can affect the vision quality, night vision and
contrast sensitivity of the person. But if they are insignificant then this
surgery is used and treatment is based on the wavefront map generated.
LASIK
is a very effective surgery Eye Treatment Delhi India and
has given excellent results for the patients. However, as is the case with any
surgery, it has some potential risks. A patient must be aware of these risks
before going for LASIK surgery. After single treatment most patients are
satisfied with the results of the surgery .But if one surgery is not able to
give the result, then second surgery is performed, to sharpen the vision. This
is called enhancement, this surgery is done after many months after first surgery.
In some rare cases, a patient may not be able to get the enhancement, if his or
her cornea is too thin or has got some abnormal shape after first surgery. Therefore
the treatment should be done from experienced doctors with advanced facilities
at their clinics. Patients who use glasses for reading are especially prone to
some changes in their vision after LASIK surgery.
