Laser Eye Surgery Procedures and its Effects

Laser is used to reshape the surface of the eye to improve or correct myopia, hypermetropia and astigmatism. During the laser surgery, the computer controlled excimer laser is used to remove the microscopic amounts of tissues from the cornea of the eye. The aim of the laser treatment is to help a person to get to see clearly without the need for glasses or contact lens.

In use of lasers, some procedures are different from others. It is this difference which gives different name to laser surgeries. Actually, almost all surgeries involve use of laser for treatment. In a common procedure, a laser known as femtosecond laser is used to create a thin flab of cornea tissues, which is then lifted out of the way. The excimer laser is then used to reshape the underlying tissue. The flab is then replaced to cover the newly reshaped area. Even when a blade is used to create a flab of the cornea, the use of laser remains to reshape the cornea. In PPK surgery, thin layer of cornea is removed and then laser is used to reshape the underlying cornea.

Use of excimer laser is considered very cool since it does not burn any tissues but only vaporizes the small part of the cornea where it is projected. The diameter of the laser and number of pulses are carefully controlled by the computer so that the cornea surface can be reshaped. The procedures are performed after giving anesthesia eye drops and duration of the treatment is only 5 to 10 minutes for one eye. The time taken by laser to reshape the cornea surface is generally less than a minute.

Generally the surgeries Laser Eye Surgery in Delhi involving the use of laser are considered for those who do not want to use either contact lens or glasses. The other reason could be that they are doing kind of work, where use of glasses or contact lens is prohibited.  The use of laser surgery eliminates the need for wearing and maintaining contact lens. Any person wearing glasses or contact lens can have the laser treatment surgery, but there are some issues that need to be considered .A person who wants to have the laser surgery should be at least 20 years of age.
